<TOP FIELD AT CROWNE PLAZA CANBERRA HALF IRONMAN

CLASS FIELD HEADS TO CANBERRA FOR CROWNE PLAZA CANBERRA CITY HALF IRONMAN
Australia’s long distance triathletes are this weekend heading to Canberra for the ninth annual Crowne Plaza Canberra Half Ironman, a gruelling triathlon that includes a 1.9km swim in Lake Burley Griffin, 93kms over Canberra city and country roads and then a half marathon through the CBD parklands in Commonwealth Park, utilising the new Menzies Walk!
The event has attracted the biggest field since 2005, and one of the strongest fields in its long history, including defending champions, Aaron Farlow form Canberra and Melissa Vandewater from Sydney’s northern beaches.
Challengers range from local heroes and heroines and international stars.
Half Ironman winners, Peter Schokman and Lisa Marangon are high in the seeding list as is Aussie international, Brian Fuller and new face to half Ironman, Carrie Lester.
But it’s the stars entering the field late who may provide some surprises after ultra hot weather ended some racer’s challengers events early whilst others are keen to compete the double after the awesome Ironman Western Australia last weekend.
Josh Rix and Jason Shortis represent the young and the older stars of the sport in Australia, Ollie Whistler a new face looking to take on the established stars...
And there’s the international stars also heading to make their mark in Canberra with Chilean star, Barbara Riveros and Austria’s Andi Giglmar putting their hand up for a late entry...
Behind the 30 strong open category field are 750 age grouper entries and 33 teams of competitors from every state and territory of Australia plus overseas too...
The 2009 event promises great action, colour and a little emotion also.
The action takes place in and around Canberra from 06:30am on Sunday December 13th with the winners expected back at the Rond Terrace, Commonwealth Park venue area around 10:20am with competitors continuing to finish through 3:00pm.
Conditions are expected to also be the best in some years for the Crowne Plaza Half Ironman, supported by Crowne Plaza – Canberra, ACT Tourism, Enervit, Ironman Activewear, POWERbreathe, Aqua Shop/Blue Seventy, Newton Running and TriShave, Tri Travel and Triathlon Photos.
